Up the Bay's trips are all inclusive and feature custom trip and menu planning, full outfitting and guiding. Experienced trip leaders are ORCA* certified and canoeing wise. Trip plans and choices are made to suit the group.
Meals are custom planned for the group and prepared on camp stoves - fresh foods early in the trip and interesting packaged foods for later days. Trippers participate in the preparation, cooking and clean up and then enjoy the evening campfire.Up the Bay's clients include adult groups from southern Ontario and visitors to Canada. A family trip can revisit single parents and families old camp experiences, or let the teenage children show mom and dad their own new skills. Children over 9 or 10 years old with an older sibling is a good age range to start family canoe tripping. For families with younger children, fixed site camping with short day trips is a good learning experience. Participants must know how to swim, be physically active and previously have done some paddling.
The rewards of canoe tripping lie not only in the sights and sounds of the landscape, but also in learning new skills and working in a co-operative way: pitching a tent, cooking, packing, portaging and even washing up, can be a meaningful and enjoyable part of a larger experience.
A tripping assistant can be hired for groups that need instruction or want to limit their involvement in camp set up, kitchen rotation or portaging. A one day picnic, paddle and camp skills pre trip practice session is available on a private lake near Toronto.
A guided canoe trip can be a safe, stress reducing stepping stone for groups and families wanting to canoe trip on their own.
